In 2024, Holly Thompson, representing Twinkle House in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire, partnered with Play Creations to enhance their fully inclusive wellness and sensory centre, established in 2004 to support families and individuals with special needs. The vision was to create a vibrant, two-level soft play area within their accessible facility, catering to children and adults of all abilities. Our team conducted a detailed site visit to align with Twinkle House’s mission of fostering health, wellness, and joy in the North West, ensuring the play space would be a safe, engaging, and inclusive addition to their sensory offerings. Collaborating closely with Holly Thompson, Play Creations developed a tailored design brief for a two-level soft play structure, prioritizing sensory and active features to suit diverse needs. Our building survey ensured the space was optimized for accessibility, incorporating a hoist and adjustable lighting. The design integrated sensory elements like light tubes, shape sorters, and mirror panels, alongside active features such as spring steps, a trampette, and a slide, all crafted to complement Twinkle House’s inclusive ethos. The layout was planned to create a joyful, stimulating environment for all ages and abilities. The soft play area, completed in 2024, was designed and manufactured by our expert team using premium, UK-sourced materials. The two-level structure featured sensory highlights, including light tubes, shape sorters, mirror panels, a sensory music unit, and a colourful bubble tube, fostering engagement for users with special needs. Active features like spring steps, a trampette, a slide, a play slide, tumblers, and a rock climbing wall encouraged physical play, while a large soft rocking chair provided a relaxation space. Our team executed a seamless installation, ensuring full accessibility with a hoist and adjustable lighting, ready for Twinkle House’s diverse visitors. Since its completion, Play Creations has maintained an ongoing partnership with Twinkle House, providing regular maintenance to ensure the soft play area remains safe and welcoming. The inclusive, sensory-rich space has become a cornerstone of Twinkle House’s offerings, delighting families, children, and adults while supporting the centre’s mission to improve health and wellness in the North West. This vibrant addition has strengthened Twinkle House’s reputation as a fully accessible, joyful destination, creating lasting, positive experiences for all who visit.
