Old Hall School - Walsall's Small Indoor Softplay Space

In the summer of '25, Play Creations and Old Hall School collaborated to design and manufacture a customised indoor softplay and a sensory room. Our expert softplay design team handled both of the projects, using their expertise to design and outline the initial draft for each room. Old Hall School's representatives wanted the indoor playground to be complete for the kids to return to in September, giving Play Creations a short time window to work with.

The goal was to maximise the quality for money and play value in both the sensory room and the softplay space. Due to the small rooms, leveraging all the available space was crucial to getting the most play value. Old Hall School were open to suggestions and wanted Play Creations to take complete creative control over the softplay design and concept. We decided that we wanted to utilise wall space and a multi-level concept.

The theme chosen for this 250 sq. ft softplay and the sensory room was to maintain Old Hall Schools brand and fit the colour scheme of the school. Children aged 4-12 are the targeted age range for the indoor softplay. Due to the large age range, both rooms had to have large equipment that a 12 year old can use easily, but also suitable for a 4 year old. This posed challenges to our team as the space wasn't huge. The lack of space meant we relied heavily on wall features and interactive games. Old Hall School invested £30,000 into both of the rooms. This money went towards the design and manufacturing of both the indoor softplay and sensory rooms, with Play Creations supplying high quality materials and manufacturing the softplay in the UK. Throughout the entire design and installation phases, we ensured that every structural feature, softplay equipment and strip of vinyl complied with safety and standard compliance, and maintained durability.

Old Hall School made the perfect investment, with the play structure maximising the play value, maintaining longevity and continuously providing a safe space for children in Walsall. The softplay design team planned for features such as Log Ramp, Board Slide and multiple interactive wall games in the softplay room, which all increase kids engagement and responsiveness to the softplay. In the sensory room, features such as the LED Light Tubes, LED Infinity Mirror and the Interactive Rhapsody Panel all add interesting and unique elements. Thes sensory equipment assists children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) by providing targeted feedback that helps to regulate their nervous systems. The equipment helps to aid focus and develop motor skills.

These all show Play Creations affinity to include as much as possible so that Old Hall School could gain as much play value from this installation. We also showcase how we provide for SEND kids and try to accomodate all the children that Old Hall School could have in their walls. Our excellent softplay design team finished the indoor playground on time and within budget. The pupils attending Old Hall School, pleased with the colourful softplay and its paired sensory room. Designed and manufactured in UK, the key goal of maximising the softplay space with interactive activities has been met. Key elements such as the Log Ramp, Board Slide and Interactive Wall panels maintain an interactive and engaging environment. Also in the sensory room, key features such as the LED Light Tubes, LED Infinity Mirror and Interactive Rhapsody Panel add more interactivity and unique characteristics which will promote the experiences of the children at Old Hall School.

Old Hall School's representatives are thrilled with the end results and amazed by our ability to maximise the play value in each of the spaces. They were especially pleased with the interactive games and found it a unique and creative approach to their limited space. Play Creations offer a softplay maintenance scheme that ensures the equipment remains safe and functional throughout its life-span. This scheme helps to preserve the strong relationship that Play Creations has built with Old Hall School, whilst preserving the longevity of the softplay, making it a worthy long-term investment which maximises its value for cost.
