Cub and Cup

At the end of 2025, Shannon Mulbern contacted Play Creations to deliver a bespoke commercial softplay installation for their new upcoming play cafe, Cub and Cup. This family-focused venue is based in Swindon and wanted a space that would appeal to both children and parents, combining engaging softplay features with a calm softplay aesthetic. With the 500 sq.ft footprint, the project required careful consideration to ensure the softplay design maximised play value within its space. Play Creations worked diligently alongside Shannon and her team to turn their softplay dreams into a reality.

The softplay equipment is suitable for children ages 0-7 which fit the target demographic that Cub and Cup were aiming to achieve. Split into 3 sections the full installation included a large softplay, a dedicated baby area and a soothing sensory room. These areas allowed for the space to feel inclusive and appeal to a wide audience range. Having a specialised baby area helps to maintain safety across all ages and allows babies to explore without the risk of older children speeding past. In addition to this, Shannon's business goal was to create and maintain a soft play area that allows children to explore, grow confident and have fun so that parents can relax and recharge in a safe environment.

Designed with both fun and safety in mind, this soft play is made to encourage physical activity, socialising and imaginative play. Bright, yet soft colours, interactive features and numerous age-appropriate challenges help to keep the children entertained whilst supporting their childhood development. We capture this energy through softplay equipment such as the Corner Climb and our ever popular dizzy disc.

Our goal, as a soft play manufacturer is to provide our customers with a long lasting, sturdy and sustainable softplay, so we've designed our softplays to maximise these values. Using a robust steel frame, bespoke timber framing (for voluminous blocks) and commercial grade foam our play frames become durable and stand the test of time. Pure foam can collapse with long term use, particularly in commercial environments, so we've adapted ours to fit with a timber panelling to ensure that your soft play lasts as long as possible. We ensure all the timber is protected under our lifetime warranty to reassure our customers that they're getting good value out of our products. Across the 3 rooms, the total soft play budget was £45,000 which went into the designing and manufacturing of the indoor soft play. Supplied with high quality commercial grade materials which were sourced from trusted suppliers in the UK, this bespoke indoor playground met all safety and standard compliances. Maximising durability, functionality and play value in every aspect of the project, whilst ensuring we stayed within the budget set by Shannon were key for this soft play.

Every feature our expert soft play design team planned for, offered long lasting durability for Shannon and her team at Cub and Cup. With standout play equipment such as the Dizzy Disc, bespoke Corner Climb and Tube Slide, the features are integrated into the main soft play to maximise both the age range and the play value. Interactivity and engagement were crucial for Shannon's vision for this softplay, so we worked endlessly to ensure we met that criteria.

With no major challenges encountered during the softplay design and planning phase, the project progressed smoothly, supported by our lifetime warranty on steel frameworks and key structural components, which in turn provides a long term reassurance on the softplay's quality and performance. Our brilliant softplay design team manufactured the finished indoor softplay area, completing the project on time and within budget. The scandi-chic themed soft play met Shannon's vision and expectations, rewarding us with a long lasting partnership with Cub and Cup. The play equipment was interactive and manufactured to encourage physical activity, sensory exploration and adventure for all the children.

The timber decorative panelling added warmth and texture throughout the space. Suspended decorative cloud features enhanced the soft and calming atmosphere in line with the scandi-chic theme, alongside the bear and cloud wall panels that further developed the atmosphere of the softplay. Cub and Cup's baby soft play area was designed to offer a safe and interactive soft play environment for younger users, ensuring inclusivity across all age groups.

Installation was completed efficiently by our expert soft play installation team, ensuring a seamless fit within the venue and minimal disruption ahead of launch. With such a smooth installation process, Shannon was impressed by our team's efficiency and the way that the project was handled. The completed Cub and Cup play cafe has become a welcoming family destination in Swindon, providing a safe and stimulating environment where children can learn, play and grow in confidence. The bespoke design successfully compliments Cub and Cup's existing space, creating additional value for visitors and a space that families can enjoy together.

Whilst our lifetime and 15 year warranties on structural components provide a long term peace of mind for Shannon and her team.

We ensure that we remain as sustainable as possible to make sure that the entire product doesn't need replacing and can be maintained instead.
